The World Health Organization defines mental health as “a state of wellbeing in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.”
This definition focuses on psychological well-being, how we think and feel about ourselves, as well as our ability to function in the world around us. It includes our ability to enjoy our lives and feel good about ourselves despite the challenges we may face.
There are many ways to improve your mental health, but one of the most effective is to start a daily routine. Daily routines help with mental health in many ways:
- They give you something productive to focus on when you wake up in the morning.
- They help you get into a positive mindset before dealing with the stresses of the day.
- They give you something concrete to do when you feel overwhelmed or anxious about something coming up later in the day or week (like an important meeting).
